If you thought the “Key Board Projector” was cool, wait till you check out the Sony Xperia Touch Projector. In a nutshell, the Xperia Touch turns any plane into a functional tablet. It shoots images, videos, and text onto flat surfaces, which can then be interacted with by touch of a hand. It projects up to 100 lumens at a 1366 x 768 image resolution, and features a built-in stereo speaker system. Its smooth touchscreen (or rather touch surface?) experience is powered by a smart IR sensor and a 60 fps camera. With a gadget this sophisticated, one begins to become paralyzed by all the purposes that the Xperia Touch can serve. Here are some ideas that we’re excited about:
- Projecting gameplay onto a coffee table
- Scrolling through recipes on a kitchen counter
- Projecting an image onto a parallel set of mirrors to create an infinite series of tablet screens (inspiration credits: Rey’s Mirror Cave Scene in The Last Jedi)
- Projecting Microsoft paint onto an actual canvas, and using real paint brushes to create a digital masterpiece
- Projecting Netflix onto the ceiling of a dark room
